Diversity in visions, variety in expressions
Haider Abdul Khadhir
Though he is still considerably young yet artist Fadhil al-Debagh
managed to secure a foothold for himself in a short time at the
art scene in Iraq.
Over the past few years, the artist displayed in a number of
galleries a good collection of works that identified his style
which is usually stamped by sensitive transparency in expressing
his themes in addition to the clear simplicity that surrounds
most of his exhibits.
Generally speaking, his works are reflection of his childhood
fantasies and dream-obsessions.
And though he seeks to follow certain modern styles but one can
almost touch his intention to create human dialogue that stands
on firm bases in many parts of his paintings.
While contemplating, a viewer might feel the-splendid
atmosphere, al-debagh successfully creates.
Those atmospheres in somehow provide a space of relief where
eves can freely wander.
Another thing that might relaxes you is the felling that
something in such art completes the scattered pieces inside you.
Probably he is so talented in exploring others hidden sides
unintentionally.
Colors come as part of his game to surround viewers' senses and
control their attention.
To do so he uses a combination of the green and blue which he
never hesitates to distribute repeatedly on his surfaces.
Both actually correspond perfectly with his psychological
themes. Yellow as he explained is a pure color. Suggesting hope,
energy while blue is the" secret of life" as he likes to
describe.
Some inner motives seem to dominate al-Debagh's paintings.
Probably some symbols are derived from his own personal life
while the impact of childhood still plays a role till the
current days. That is why fishes, birds and some folkloric
details are from time to time present in his work.
Circles, triangle and other geometrical shapes with more than
dimensions are another characteristic that might be seen in Al-Debagh's
artworks.
They are part of his philosophy and belonging to place and time.
Subsequently, one can say that the artist will no doubt have a
promising future, yet he is doing well so far.
